Panama Canal announces key projects

Please find relevant information on the new projects announced by the Panama Canal Authority, aimed at strengthening water sustainability, expanding logistics services and consolidating the Canal's position as a leading regional platform.

The emblematic projects are to be developed by the Panama Canal Authority:

1. Construction of a new reservoir in the Indio River basin, which will guarantee efficient water storage with a smaller surface area than Gatun Lake, with equivalent capacity for water retention.

2. Construction and installation of a gas pipeline between the Atlantic and the Pacific, currently in dialogue with potential clients, with a bidding process scheduled for 2025.

3. Development of an intermodal logistics center that, among other components, includes the construction of five port terminals, two container storage areas, a Ro-Ro port on the Atlantic, and the expansion of the Canal Logistics Corridor (CLC).

4. Expansion of existing port terminals, such as Rodman, and development of new ports in Corozal, Pacific Sector, and Telfers Island and Bahía Limón, in the Atlantic Sector.

   
   

During the last fiscal year, Canal activity showed significant growth, as evidenced by:

• A 30% increase in daily transits during the second quarter, from an average of 25.5 to 33 daily transits.

• A 13% year-over-year growth in net revenues, equivalent to an increase of US$219 million.

• The direct contribution of the Canal to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), equivalent to 2.9%.
